Contingency Planning

McKinzie Environmental has extensive experience with spill response contingency planning at the local, state and federal government levels.  We currently provide contingency planning services to the USEPA Region VII office from our Lenexa, Kansas office.

We can bring together numerous agencies at all levels of government, thereby improving the effectiveness of planning efforts. Regardless of whether your response obligations cover industrial areas, sensitive environments or simply overlapping jurisdictions, we can help facilitate the establishment of an effective response plan.

McKinzie staff participation has been critical in the development of sub-area committees and sub-area plans for USEPA Region VII, as required by the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.  McKinzie staff has also been directly involved in the review and approval process of Facility Response Plans in USEPA Region VII, as well as the USEPA Region VII Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan program.  We have conducted inspections of oil storage facilities throughout Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska and reviewed SPCC plans developed for those facilities on behalf of the EPA.

about our planning capabilities.

Instead of wondering whether your staff can properly develop a compliance plan for your facility, why not go to a company with years of experience in developing contingency plans? We understand the intent of federal inspectors. As contract staff and former federal employees, our professionals have inspected hundreds of regulated facilities and reviewed those facility’s contingency plans and have participated in EPA national workgroups involved in regulatory development and review.

In addition to developing response plans, McKinzie Environmental can assist your company with conducting simulated responses or drills that will exercise your existing response plans.  We can create a scenario consistent with your facility's operations and work with facility staff to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your response capabilities. Drills can take place as tabletop exercise or as full deployment exercises.

McKinzie also has experience preparing and certifying SPCC plans for a private industry.  Our experience with federal regulatory programs provides our staff with critical insights to properly interpret regulations and communicate with regulatory agencies.  We have a professional engineering staff that can prepare, review and certify SPCC Plans, as required by federal law.

Along with FRP and SPCC Plans, McKinzie can develop spill response plans and contingency plans that meet Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and OSHA requirements.
